Joel Stroup: Pastor

WHO ARE YOU?

I am known and loved by Jesus. I am married to my best friend Carrie and together we have 3 beautiful girls; Hannah, Jadyn, and Carli.

ONE INTERESTING THING ABOUT JOEL

I am a huge college football fan. When the season rolls around, it is very difficult not to commit a whole Saturday to it. My two faves are THE Ohio State University and South Carolina Gamecocks.

HOW DID YOU MEET AND BECOME FRIENDS WITH JESUS?

I was 6 when I started my relationship Jesus. My mom and dad introduced me to Jesus at an early age. I moved from just knowing Jesus to truly following Jesus in 8th grade. His story for my life is so much bigger than a few sentences, but my story is all about His grace (Eph.2:8-9).

FAVORITE VERSE

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. (Eph. 2:8-9)

YOU WILL NEVER SEE ME WITHOUT…

My iPhone and facial hair.

 WHY COMMUNITY BIBLE CHURCH?

Sometimes God wants us to let go of what is safe.

After being in youth ministry for over 14 years no one expected Joel and Carrie to leave the safety of a great job and income. He started in ministry after gaining a degree in youth ministry from Moody Bible Institute.  After 5 years of youth ministry in Canton Ohio, he took a position at Maranatha Bible Church.  It was here that he gained his Masters of Ministry from Baptist Bible Seminary and was soon asked to be part of church plant in New Franklin, Ohio.   This ministry gave him the opportunity to branch outside of youth ministry and take on many roles as an Associate Pastor.

After 8 years of Youth and Associate pastoral experience he felt called to leave the safety and security of his position and start Community Bible Church.    Joel and Carrie desired to see a church that would be authentic and sacrificial as it reached out to those who have no relationship with Jesus.  They desired to see entire communities changed by living out the second greatest commandment.  “To love your neighbor as yourself”.

Joel and Carrie had no idea that God would open so many doors to allow them pursue this dream full time.  It started with a conversation with the Senior Pastor at Maranatha Bible Church and their desire to launch another gospel centered church.  The path was continually cleared as they went through a church planter assessment, selling and buying of their house, and raising up a team to start this new church.

Community Bible Church was initiated and commissioned as a church plant of Maranatha Bible Church.  Since that time the Stroups have moved to the community of Tuslaw to begin this new ministry. The church itself starting meeting in January of 2015, with a small group of committed friends and families from the area.
